I was simply excited at the opportunity to join this amazing group. I love baking and decorating cakes and I enjoy sharing in on that same passion for others.
This cake was ordered from me by a lady for a special 1st birthday party celebration. To me 1st birthday parties are equivalent to one of life’s milestones. This cake took me some time to put together, but you can see that I put more than my time in it. The heart and passion given to me for baking from God was put into this cake as well.
Currently, I run a small baking and catering business my from home, but my dream is to have my own bakery/café establishment. Life has it’s difficult times, but what I enjoy the most about baking and creating beautiful cakes is that these opportunities allow me to share in on some of life’s most precious and happiest moments. Making cakes is my HAPPY condition. I had dreams sins I can remember myself of creating “beautiful” around me. First I wanted to be a fashion designer ( what was I thinking ), then an architect ,then I got caught up by the interior design. I graduated in design and was working as a designer until I was expecting my third son. Then having to be a mom of 3 got a bit too busy at that point and my abilities to express my self with art ware suddenly limited . Untill I found other outlet for my creativity. That was my son’s first birthday cake… there was no going back from there 🙂 The magic of sugar never stops to surprise me. As much as you plan the design of your cake, there is always something more being born under your fingers. And all the people,  young moms and brides seing the cakes they ordered -all the joy, smiley faces, people jumping of happines in my kitchen , even crying sometimes… it’s beyond description… Makes it all like living in a beautiful world of HAPPY… I love making cakes, I love all cake people, I love my cake friends ( colleagues ) Is there any other job like that … 🙂 🙂 🙂

Vimarsha Hettiarachchi’s Note:

This “White Peacock Themed Wedding Cake” I did for a themed wedding cake competition,there I won the 1st place for this and also this is the first wedding cake structure I was designed. Because of that this is very special to me.
I used white fondant to cover the whole structure, then I’ve used 3 different royal icing techniques and designs for variety. There’s lot of royal icing lace work I’ve done on tiers and to make peacock’s feather tail. They were too fragile and really hard to work with. There’s a lovely white peacock couple on the top of the cake made out of a parchment fondant. Also I used various size edible pearls to make it more beautiful. About the floral decoration, all made out of icing and I’ve used 3 sizes of light pink,yellow and white roses, tiny white baby’s breath flowers, some green wild berries and leaves to look simple and elegant. Also I’ve used glass ornaments in between 1st and 2nd tier and 3rd and base tier of the structure to increase it’s height.

Although I have been baking and creating cakes for the last 8 years it was January 2016 that I officially launched He who bakes and finally started bringing joy into the world one cake at a time… so this is a beautiful way to end my first year!
 
The theme of my cakes is “favourite things” – you tell me 20-50 of your favourite things – things specifically personal to the recipient of the cake, and I’ll create something that will blow their mind! My cakes are decorated on all 4 sides so a turntable and fairy lights are a must! Recent cakes I’ve loved making have been Harry Potter, Punk, the 80’s and of course The Autumn Girl.
 
The Autumn Girl was commissioned for a 70th birthday and told the story of Marilyn Dee, a wonderful lady who has a passion for life – dance, her family, the arts, friendship, nature, food and yoga were included among many other things. Her husband wrote her a poem called the autumn girl which I transferred onto autumn leaves that fell from the top of the cake to the bottom. Marilyn absolutely loved her cake and said it made her day – mission accomplished.
